The MWN resulted from a series of seven NSF-sponsored development workshops held in different regions of the world. Click here to view workshop reports.

Each workshop invited an interdisciplinary group of researchers, educators, and industry leaders to exchange experience and work in groups to generate recomendations to improve international collaborations in materials research and education.These recommendations were later presented to government policy makers at implementation meetings. The main outcomes have been:

 1) A international framework of joint funding agreements between NSF and its counterparts that support collaborations among partners from different regions

 2) A stronger global networking infrastructure, including materials research societies in Africa and the Americas, and another under development in the Mideast Gulf region.

 3) Integration of research and education

 4) Multilateral activities in research and education
